For those of you who saw my Odyssey blog you know the past year was one of travel and great adventures. My family was wonderfully supportive throughout it and kept me going when I wasn't sure I was up for it. My two adult children live on either side of the continent. Chris, wife Amy and daughter Quinn, 6 are in Chelmsford, just outside Boston and m daughter Heather lives in Ft. St. John BC with husband Steve and two daughters Jessica 14 and Megan 12. While I am fortunate to be able to visit with them often they only see each other a few days a year and rarely can we all be together. It seemed like a trip to Alaska would be a wonderful way to finish off the year.
We met in Vancouver where the Coral Princess journey would begin. I flew in early to spend the day with my high school friend Heather. I love the Sky Train that brought me in from the airport faster than a taxi could have. We made our way along the sea walk to Stanley Park and back along my favourite streets.
We met up with Chris, Amy and Quinn for a late lunch. Heather is his god mother and was good to get together. I returned to our hotel in time to meet up with Heather, Steve, Jessica and Megan. Hotels are full and expensive over the summer. Ours was nice but my door wouldn't open from the inside. Luckily we had adjoining rooms. The girls and I sent Steve and Heather for dinner while we shared our pre ship jitters with each other.
The next morning we were a well oiled machine. Our van driver took us right to the drop off for our luggage and we were one of the first in line to get on the ship.
Steve kept a good eye on his girls as they kept friends at home informed about our progress.
The wait went by quickly as the kids and grandkids all got caught up with each other.
I had sailed on the Coral Princess in 2008 with my Mom just after my Dad died. We had a great trip and today as we sailed out under the Lionsgate bridge it felt good to be with my family.
The lighthouse at Stanley Park and going under the Lionsgate Bridge
First dinner and everyone enjoying the bling
